Division Two Result
Rangers fc dundalk 5 - 1 Oldcastle Utd Afc
Oldcastle United travelled to Moorlands to take on the NEFL Club of the Year Rangers Fc in their first game of the league campaign. The hosts fell behind in the eighteenth minute when Lee Clarke converted a penalty after some good play Saw Gary Griffin fouled in the box after some link up play with Michael Flood. OUFC then conceded a penalty six minutes before the break when Brian Griffin fouled TJ Murtagh in the box, and the striker blazed his penalty over Mark Fitzsimons goal. OUFC led at the interval but the game turned on its head within fives minutes of the break with two quick goals, first Barry Carr converted a Free kick with the help of a deflection, and Anto Mcloughlin got on the end of TJ Murtaghs backheel pass to put the home side in the lead. Then Mark Fitzsimons made a great save from Murtagh with his legs and Carr sent the rebound over the OUFC goal. Just after the hour mark Rangers got their third when Barry Carr converted a penalty after Brian Caffrey mistimed a tackle in the box. Oldcastle stepped up the pressure and had a good goal disallowed when Jonathan Boylan was adjudged to have been ahead of play. Then Boylan had another great chance but Mulvey saved with his legs and the resulting corner was headed wide by Boylan again. Rangers should of increased their lead when John Duffy raced through on goal only for Fitzsimons to save well again. With nineteen minutes left, Oldcastle were awarded a second penalty when Tommy O Reilly was fouled by John Duffy, resulting in the defender getting his marching orders with a second yellow of the game, and Lee Clarke just sent his spot kick over the crossbar. Boylan went close on a couple more occasions before Eedris Akinade raced through to fire home a fourth for Rangers and Tommy O Reilly went close soon after when he rounded Thomas Mulvey but his shot found the side netting. Aron Kiernan seen a shot blocked when it looked destined for the net and then Rangers finally seen off the Challenge of Oldcastle when Tj Murtagh scored a great individual goal. Lessons learned after seen clinical finishing from some Premier Division players!! Overall, scoreline doesn't reflect the game so we move on to next game.
