Oldcastle United record 3-0 win against Hazel Lane
North East Football League Division 2
Oldcastle United 3 - 0 Hazel Lane
The blues welcomed second placed Hazel Lane from Drogheda to Gilson Park in this Division two game. The home side were looking to build on their win from last week and started this match brightly with Jonathan Boylan heading over a Brian Caffrey cross after just ten minutes of play. Four minutes later Boylan struck a shot which was saved by Eunan Pedigrew. Luca Marsella then tried his luck for Hazel Lane but never troubled Fitzsimons in goal. Oldcastle pushed for the opener and Mc Cann shot wide before the blues opened the scoring when CJ Helay received the ball on the left wing and his cross found the back of the net as the flight of the ball deceived the keeper. Five minutes before the break Boylan made space before seen his shot blocked by Flanagan only Healy to fire the rebound just wide of the post. Alan McCann then had another chance when he volleyed first time with his left foot but his shot went wide. The blues finally got their deserved second goal and it was magic as Healy cut in from the left and sent a stinging right foot shot into the far top corner of the net. The second half proved to be more difficult as Hazel Lane looked to get themselves back into this match. Oldcastle should of grabbed their third when Alan McCann diposessed Flanagan at the half way line and broke free, but the keeper read the chance and blocked his run and the rebound fell to Boylan and his cut back found Mc Cann and he fired high and over into the Tennis court where an old lady was playing. with seven minutes remaining the match was over as a tie as Tommy O Reilly put Cj Healy clear through and his cross was finished at the back post by Boylan. Oldcastle collected their first clean sheet of the season and their first three points of the league but we kindly donated them back to Gerry Gorman & his committee and will remain on zero for now !!
