North East Football League Division 2
Parkvilla Football Club 3 - 2 Oldcastle United
Oldcastle suffered their first defeat in five matches when they travelled to Claremount stadium in Navan to take on Parkvilla in this division two clash. Within a minute of the kick off the home side had opened the scoring as Marcus Bailey raced through on goal from a good pass which caught the defence napping and the striker made no mistake when slotting the ball past the onrushing keeper Keith Fitzsimons.Twenty minutes later it was two nil to Parkvilla as Chris Hand rose highest from a corner kick to fire the ball home past Fitzsimons. Oldcastle trailed at the interval 2-0 but came out for the second half a different side and pressed Parkvilla for a goal and they grabbed a lifeline with less than twenty minutes left in the match as long serving player James Smith showed his determination to win a header following a free kick which found the bottom corner of the net. The blues were spurred on by this goal and put Parkvilla to the test and went close on a few occasions before finally grabbing an equaliser in the last few minutes of the game as Substitute Cormac Daly scrambled the ball home following some scrappy play in the box. Oldcastle should of left with a point from Navan but they were left speechless as the man who started the scoring finished the scoring with Bailey evading the offside trap to be left one on one with Fitzsimons and despite the keeper getting his hand to the shot the ball trickled the back of Oldcastle net. A funny old game ...
